Michael D. Cassity is Professor and Coordinator of Music Therapy at Drury University. Dr. Cassity is a board certified Music Therapist holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Southwest Baptist University, a Master of Music Therapy from Loyola University (New Orleans) and a Ph.D. in Music Therapy from the University of Iowa. Cassity is a past president of the Southwestern region of the American Music Therapy Association (SWAMTA), a 1998 recipient of the SWAMTA "Harmony Award" for outstanding contributions in research, and is the author of the music therapy textbook Multimodal Psychiatric Music Therapy for Adults, Adolescents and Children (third edition) as well as numerous articles in journals and books. Dr. Cassity was awarded the honorary title "Professor Emeritus" by the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges for his contributions as Coordinator of Music Therapy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University from 1981 to 2000. Cassity presently serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Music Therapy, the premier journal of the American Music Therapy Association.
