GENERAL INFORMATION

TRANSPORTATION
If your son or daughter needs transportation to or from the Springfield airport, please notify us of arrival/departure times and flight information immediately. While we will be happy to get students to and from the airport, we do have a limited number of staff, particularly on Sunday during registration, available to shuttle campers.

EQUIPMENT/INSTRUMENTS
Students should bring their own instruments to camp. Saxophonists should bring extra reeds, neckstrap and any doubles they play (flute or clarinet). Reeds, patch cords and other accessories will not be available for purchase at camp-make sure you bring extras. Trumpet and trombone players should bring their instrument and any mutes they may own. Bass and guitar players should bring their instrument, an amplifier and patch cords. Drummers should bring a drumset. A very limited number of school-owned drumsets and amps are available for students who are traveling long distances or who do not own the appropriate equipment. If you need to use any of Drury’s equipment, please let us know as soon as possible.

STORAGE/SECURITY
There is no on-site storage for student instruments. Dorms are only a block away from the music building, so students should store their instruments in their rooms or when they are not in class. Amps and drumsets may be left in the rehearsal spaces, and doors will be locked when classes are not in session.

Rooms are generally secure, and theft has typically not been a problem. However, while we will do our best to secure rooms when they are not in use, theft is still a possibility. Summer school is in session during the camp, and community members are free to enter university buildings, so a large number of people potentially have access to classrooms on campus. Again, we will do everything in our power to ensure the security of equipment, but due to the size of the facilities and numbers of people involved, it is simply not possible for us to watch each room at all times of the day. Small, easily portable items (instruments, cymbals, stick bags, music, iPods/MP3 players) should not be left in classrooms. While we will do our best to ensure the safety of your belongings, Drury University and the Drury Jazz Camp assumes no responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen items.

AUDITIONS
Every camper, regardless of age or ability level must audition. These auditions determine placement in big bands, improvisation classes and combos. Auditions are short and painless, and will consist of a short sightreading example and improvisation over a blues progression.
Audition results will be posted Monday morning. Students should plan to arrive early before the first class on Monday to determine where they have been assigned for each class.

THEORY TEST
Every student must also take the theory test. If you have not had any music theory background and do not feel comfortable attempting to answer the questions, don’t worry, many students are in a similar situation. In that case please write your name at the top of the test, and turn it in blank. This will ensure that every student is placed in the appropriate class.

EVENING CONCERTS
Concerts are presented each evening of camp. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will feature the Drury Jazz Camp Faculty and will begin at 7:00pm. Resident campers (those staying in the dorms) are required to attend, and commuters are strongly encouraged to attend. Thursday night’s concert will feature student combos and will also begin at 7:00. Friday’s concert will take place at 1:30pm and will feature student big bands. All concerts are also free and open to the general public. All students are expected to participate in the student combo and big band performances. Parents are encouraged to attend those events.

FEES/REFUNDS
The balance of fees (Room, Board and Tuition) is due at registration. However, it is encouraged to send this early to save time at registration. You may pay any portion of the tuition and fees ahead of time-just send payment to the address on the application form.  Please make checks payable to Drury Jazz Camp. Once camp has begun, no refund of tuition or fees will be made for any reason.

KEY DEPOSIT
A $65.00 refundable key deposit will be charged at registration and will be refunded at check-out, provided the key and card are returned. We must have two checks: one for $50 for key and one for $15 for the swipe card. You may also bring cash.

MEALS
Meals for campers staying in the dorms are included in the room and board portion of the fee. Commuters may purchase individual meals via the registration form at the following prices: breakfast $5, lunch $7 and dinner $9. In order to ensure enough lead time for food services staff, requests for commuter meals must be received no later than two weeks prior to camp. So long as they are requested by this deadline, they may be paid either ahead of time or at registration.

MEDICAL INFORMATION RELEASE
Registration cannot be completed without a completed Medical Information Release form which can be downloaded here. Please fill out this form and either mail it to the camp office or bring it with you to registration. The Drury campus is located one block south of the Cox Medical Center. All emergency treatment will be handled through this hospital.

ACTIVITY AND INDEMNIFYING LIABILITY RELEASE
Participants of the Drury Jazz Camp must fill out the enclosed Liability Release form which can be downloaded here. This is a Drury University requirement for those attending any summer conference, camp, or workshop on the Drury campus. This form must be returned by mail or at registration.

HOUSING
School-age participants of the Drury Jazz Camp will be housed in one of the on-campus residence halls. Room assignments will be made prior to registration with consideration given to roommate preference whenever possible. Students with no stated preference will be placed with other students of a similar age. Dorms will have separate areas for men and women. Each room is equipped with two twin beds and a window unit air conditioner. Participants should bring their own linens (sheets, towels, blankets) and toilet accessories. Please see below for a more detailed list of what to bring. Bathrooms are located on each wing of each dorm floor. Housing will be provided Sunday night through Thursday night. Residents should plan to check out before the concert on Friday-no later than 1:00 pm.
