Tara Stafford, coloratura soprano, is a native of Springfield, Missouri.  She graduated with her BM in Performance from Drury University.  While earning her bachelor’s degree, Ms. Stafford was in the Springfield Regional Opera’s Young Artist Program.  With the SRO she made her professional debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro.  In 2001 she started graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  There she was seen as The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute and as Jenny in Robert Ward’s Roman Fever.  In 2002 Ms. Stafford started a two-year apprenticeship with the Asheville Lyric Opera.  With the ALO she performed the role of Della in the professional debut of David Conte’s The Gift of the Magi.  Tara recently finished her MM degree in Vocal Performance at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University where she studied with Mezzo-Soprano, Marianna Busching.   At Peabody she performed the role of Beatrice in a new chamber opera, Some Ado, by Kevin Clark.  She also sang the role of Mercy and Obedience in Hildegard von Bingen’s Ordo Virtutum. Some of the other roles Ms. Stafford has performed include Laurie in The Tenderland, Cunegunde in Candide, Miss Silverpeal in The Impressario, Madeline/Isabelle in The Face On the Barroom Floor, Cupid & Wood Goddess in the Masque from Dioclesian, and Miss Titmouse in Too Many Sopranos.  Ms. Stafford has had the opportunity to perform with Asheville Lyric Opera, Asheville Symphony, Springfield Regional Opera, Springfield Symphony, Opera in the Ozarks, Greensboro Opera, Peabody Chamber Opera and UNC-G Opera Studio.  Tara and her husband, Jacob Frank, recently moved back to the Springfield area.  She now works with the Springfield Regional Opera as the Opera Education and Outreach Coordinator.  In January 2008 she will be singing the role of Mrs. Nordstrom in the Springfield Regional Opera’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.
