Drury Outreach Ensembles

We are very pleased to formally announce the formation of Drury Outreach Ensembles, a fundraising organization serving the Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra (a regional community orchestra for southwest Missouri) and Ensemble 21, Drury’s new professional ensemble-in-residence specializing in the performance of 20th and 21st century music.

These groups have now been in operation for more than two years and have already made a significant impact on Springfield’s musical life. However, because E21 and the SDCO serve the community-at-large, they require a financial commitment beyond the scope of Drury’s Department of Music budget. And while E21 charges a modest admission for concerts, the SDCO presents Springfield symphony-goers an additional concert series—for free! To this end, the Drury Outreach Ensembles initiative has been established to help raise funding and awareness.

Your tax-deductible donation will help ensure that these exciting new endeavors continue to flourish, and you will be recognized in all E21 and SDCO programs for the 2007-2008 season.

Regards,

Christopher Koch, D.M.A

Musical Experience. From exhilarating new works by today’s leading composers to the great orchestral masterpieces, these ensembles provide our community full seasons of great performances.

Drury Distinctive. Few universities of under 3500 full-time undergraduates can offer a full orchestra experience to their students, much less of the quality of the SDCO. Simultaneously, E21 continues Drury’s distinguished tradition of housing a professional ensemble-in-residence.

Community Outreach. E21 and the SDCO bring together more than 100 (and growing) professional players and educators, colleagues at neighboring universities, serious students, and dedicated enthusiasts. This intermingling not only enhances the health and collegiality of Springfield’s musical community but also brings accomplished professionals into engaging contact with our students.

Guest Artists. In less than two years, E21 and the SDCO have already presented 5 guest soloists, conductors, and composers to their audiences—engagements which often include free public classes and/or lectures.
